A widely felt earthquake struck near the Lo‘ihi Seamount on Saturday night.
The earthquake was recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory at 5:59 p.m. Preliminary estimates from HVO put the earthquake at a magnitude-3.9, while the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center estimated it was a magnitude-4.1. The earthquake was located at a depth of 9.1 miles below sea level, with an epicenter 4 miles east-northeast of Lo‘ihi.
“No tsunami is expected,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
